Q Cellthru BigBead Plus is a large particle,
strong anion exchanger. Ion exchange Cellthru BigBead Plus media is
available in two particle size ranges (300-500µm and 800-1,100µm)
with anion (DEAE/Q) or cation exchange (CM/SP) functionalities. The
strong ion exchange (Q/SP) beads stay charged and maintain high capacities
over a wide working pH range (pH 3-11). In weak ion exchangers (DEAE/CM),
capacity is a function of pH.
Ion exchange Cellthru BigBead Plus resins are made of a hardened agarose
matrix with ion exchange groups attached through a spacer arm. Hardening
gives the matrix increased chemical and mechanical stability.
Cellthru BigBeads are used for more viscous feed streams and direct
capture. In using the larger particle diameter beads to allow particulate
material to flow through the column, you will likely need to retrofit
the column with a larger porosity screen. We supply a 180µm screen
with the beads for this purpose. People familiar with direct capture
are likely accustomed to beads that do not function in a standard
packed bed system, and associate direct capture with limitations on
flow rate. In recognition of this short-coming of traditional direct
capture, we have developed Cellthru BigBeads to function in standard
packed-bed applications in short, fat columns (where the diameter
of the column and the height are in a 1:1 ratio) with vertical scale-up
potential using the same diameter. This makes pilot scale parameters
more meaningful to production scale and reduces the time spent on
method development. |
